Company History
Founded in 1948, and now in its third generation, Hugh Cotton Insurance is an independent agency owned and managed by the Cotton family. Hugh M. Cotton, Sr. founded the agency and was succeeded by his son Hugh M. Cotton Jr. until 1999 where the agency has been solely run by Thomas M. Cotton.
The agency was built around agriculture, insuring one of the largest agribusinesses in the country as well as other large citrus processing facilities and citrus growers in Florida. As the economy, climate and opportunities in Florida changed, our business focus had to change to meet the needs of the growing community.
In 1983, Hugh Cotton developed a national program for boat dealers and marinas which became the largest program in the country. This was followed with a division of private individual insurance, Eagle Marine Underwriters, to insure private yachts.
Currently insuring everything from small retail shops to international defense contractors, we now include moving and storage, auto dealerships, manufacturing and construction.
Our personal lines department is well outfitted with reputable companies offering competitive premiums. We have established a Private Client Group to insure the unique insurance needs of our high net-worth home owners clients.
